VA2K Walk and Roll Supports Homeless Veterans and Promotes Physical Activity
SANTA FE, NM–The Santa Fe National Cemetery will host a VA2K Walk and Roll on May 21, at 12:00pm to encourage healthy activity while supporting homeless Veterans with donated food and clothing items.
The VA2K Walk and Roll is an easy two-kilometer walk (approximately 1.25 miles) three times around the Bataan Memorial Building and adjacent Jerry Apodaca/Public Education Building. It is open to Veterans and the general public.
Pre-registration is not required, and those interested in participating should plan to arrive at the Memorial no later than 11:30am.
“Worksite wellness activities enhance employee engagement and contribute to a more productive and healthy workforce,” said James Sanders, the new Director of Santa Fe National Cemetery. “Last year the VA2K was extremely successful. Our goal is to collect even more in-kind donations and involve more participants in support of wellness and homeless Veterans this year.”
The event is just one of many VA2K activities taking place at other VA facilities across the country. In conjunction with the event, Cemetery Director Sanders is authorized to accept gifts under VHA Handbook 4721 and will inform participants of VA’s willingness to accept gifts and Santa Fe National Cemetery need for in-kind gifts to be used to carry out existing VA programs for homeless Veterans. However, there is no requirement for a donation in order to participate.
The event is open to people of all fitness levels and can be done over the lunch break. State employees working in the surrounding state office complexes are strongly encouraged to participate. Whether you team up with a coworker, a friend, or participate on your own, there’s no better time than now to step up your fitness level and help improve the lives of homeless Veterans.
