Always a Marine

by Norman Peterson

My Uncle Gale…served in the Marines, was at the Canal, Bloody Ridge, etc. Last time I saw him in the assisted living home, he was peeling/cutting up potatoes…as he had told me he was a sometime cook there…The operator of the home related to me that occasionally, he would go into a hand-to hand stance as if he had his rifle, and was doing the “bayonet dance”…nothing violent or harmful to anyone, but she could see and figure out what he was doing. She had seen the same thing with her grandfather, who served on the Eastern Front under Marshal Koniev…Kursk, St Pete (Lenningrad)
